About ME...

My Passions
Welcome to my classroom! I thought
you'd be interested in knowing a
little bit about me before we begin. I
am sure I will get my turn to know
about you later on.
I am a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (1990) with a degree in
English Literature with studies in Linguistics and German. There I was also a Track
and Field athlete.
I graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Master's in Science degree in
English Education. I have two certifications and two endorsements (check it out at
myfloridateacher.org).
My hobbies are reading and running. I love Math and Science, and to teach with Music
and Art. Before I became a teacher I held about five different jobs, one of them
includes the military, where I am currently a Sergeant First Class with the Army
Reserves.
The magazines I
subscribe to:
Childhood: A long time ago I was born in the Bronx, where most
friendly Puerto Ricans originate. I lived there until I was nine
when my mother, ever-so-caring, sent me with my eight-year old
sister to live with my grandmother in the mountains of Puerto
Rico. There I learned most of what I am today: the love for
nature, serenity, running, witchcraft, magic, and a passion for
learning about the poor and weak.
Youth: I returned to New York, a year-and-a-half later and was
placed a grade behind for knowing very little about reading and
English. -My weakness then became my strength later, when I
dropped my Mechanical Engineering major to study English
Literature at the University of Puerto Rico.
Not even a year after, my family returned to Puerto Rico. As a
fifth-grader, I entered school in mid-year but knew enough
Spanish to defend myself. I became known as "the gringa," and
remained in the island until I graduated from the University of
Puerto Rico in Mayaguez, with a B.A. in English, concentrating
in Literature with a minor in Linguistics. I lived in Puerto Rico
for 12 years.
Adulthood: I joined the military, Army Reserves, almost a year
after I graduated from the university and worked for different
companies until I decided what I really wanted to do; teaching
was NOT one of my choices. I wanted to write, but to be a writer
you must have money and time. Meanwhile, I continued to run as
much as I could. Although I have only run two full-marathon in
my life, I have completed at least 13 half-marathons, but this part
of my story is too long, so here's my Curriculum Vitae instead.
